Open the PDF; the first page appears with a crop box.

Drag the box edges or corners to the area you want to keep.

  3. 3

Good reasons to crop

Reading a two-column paper on a phone is easier with the margins trimmed. Scans often have a grey or black border from the scanner lid. Presentation handouts can be cropped to the slide area, removing the speaker notes printed below.

All pages or one page

“All pages” applies the same box to every page — right for documents with a consistent layout. Pages of different sizes get the same box measured from the top-left, limited to their own edges. “Current page only” lets you crop a single figure or table page.

Precise values

The sidebar shows the box as margins in points (1/72 inch) from each edge. Type values to get exact, repeatable margins — for example 36 points (half an inch) on every side.

Cropping hides, it does not delete

Cropping changes the visible area of the page. The content outside the box is still inside the file, which means it can be restored by someone who edits the page boxes. Do not rely on cropping to remove confidential information.

Crop PDF: frequently asked questions

Will cropping reduce file size?

No. The hidden areas remain in the file. Use Compress PDF if size matters.

Can I undo a crop later?

Yes, in principle — the content is still there. Keep your original file if you might need the full page again.

Does cropping work on rotated pages?

Yes. The box is drawn on the page as you see it and converted to the page’s own coordinates.

Can I make pages a standard size after cropping?

Not in this tool; cropped pages take the size of the crop box.
